Growing up in Caracas, Venezuela, specifically in Barrio Calle 18 women have much pride in looking beautiful with less means to do so. Women stay beautiful with what they have. There is so much pride in staying healthy, looking healthy and staying beautiful.

As a girl I was no different, walking down the hill to catch a bus to go to the central part of Caracas. I would see women with make up and jewelry on always looking beautiful. I wanted to be just like them, but I did not have money for jewelry. One day in the summer, my Aunt Mayra asked me if I wanted to take a class to learn something new. I immediately knew I wanted to take a class on how to make jewelry. That class changed my life. I could not afford to buy jewelry so I began making it. ¡Gracias Tía Mayra!

When I initially began to make jewelry I was able to sell it because people loved it. At that time, I was able to make good money-for my country-and help pay for my father's surgery after having a stroke. Nurses and doctors at the hospital would buy my jewelry pieces. I was very proud of that. I knew then that my dream was to become a great jewelry artist and have my own jewelry making company.

Stay Beautiful captures the idea to always remember and inspire other women to see the beauty they already have and have always had. Because being beautiful begins from within, in the your heart and mind, just like in Calle 18.
To give back to where my journey began I have established my other passion which is helping and rescuing animals, specifically dogs. I started Calle18.org. A foundation to help support abused and abandoned dogs in Venezuela, like I often saw in my barrio of Calle 18.
